We should really have a Unit Artist's Library for Civ 4, much like the Civ 3 one. I would start it myself, but it should really be a unitmaker who does.

It's makes searching for units quite a bit easier - especially if you can remember who did them.

I think we should not form a thread, containing a library of units but rather have a mini site dedicated to units and arranged by Eras (ancient,......industial, Modern, Sci-Fi, fantasy, and miscelanious, ETC) then sub categories of what type of unit (land, air, sea, something else?). So there will be directories and sub directories, starting from the directory "Unit Library" and leading to era and so on. The unit library, would lead to the unit era or "Class" and then the classes will seperate to further the type (sea, air, land). There should be a mini pic, like an icon taken of the unit, right next to the name of the unit, and all the units should bee packed like a regular Forum menu, with the little icons next to each threadlike thingy, the link could even link to the thread. Im sorry if i confused anyone, im kinda a visual guy and not soo good with words. I can draw soething up in photoshop of what i think should happen.

The trouble is with that sort of thing is that it's always maintained by one person. So far, every library such as this in the history of CFC has had the person who is maintaining it get bored, and wander off, leaving the library incomplete and never updated.

If the unit makers update it every time they make a unit then this never happens.

well, then start one, for me it is quiete easy, cause i have my post #5 called art monk(eys) laboratory in the warhammer fb thread, where almost every unit is linked, so it will be very easy to get the stuff into the artists library

instead of making a seprate site, you could have the library in a seprate sub-forum and each tread being a different type of unit. (or perhaps, sub forums in the sub forums till you get as overly organised as you can) :)

you would need a mod to create your library forum for you though...

This wouldn't work for the reason I posted above - the libraries don't get updated.

agreed that it isnt reguarly updated cause the person gets bored etc...

but how ould this new library be any different people will continue to get bored

and this library is a must need, making it easier for everybody

I like the idea of a thread where unit makers each have one post where they update with links to their units. That way if one person stops doing whatever, the thread can continue. The big thing would be to make sure that the only posts are those by the makers, and not random other things that can creep in.

That does sound like a cool idea, and instead of haveing all the units in someones sig, you get your own library that can be easier to use! It will be quite efficent to have a thread like that in the forums

LOL im sorry guess i forgot the first post. I think that should be it. We should prompt a moderator to help set up the system. I think the moderator should have first post and introduce the unit library.

2nd... Any Moderator want to help us out with this?

I don't think we need it. If a unit maker goes and makes the first post explaining the concept, and fills it out with his units, and then all the other unit makers make a post each with their units then we should just be able to PM a mod to get it stickied.

How about using wikipedia for this?
We already have the Civ4 Wiki, it's got a graphics mod section. All we need to do is rearrange it a bit to make it more prominent and more easily accessible. Since it's Wiki everyone can contribute so even if the current generation of unit makers moves on, the new one can take over. And here in the forums we'll just add a sticky, or better yet we just ask Paasky to add a link to it on his first post in his unit index thread (btw, I think that Paasky is doing a great job but he's limited by the forum software. That unit index is just a long list, which is hard to search through).
