Long story short....I lost my original Civ 3, so I bought/installed the downloadable version off the internet. I installed the PTW expansion afterwards but it won't start. Civ 3 still works just fine. Please help.

PS: I believe that it may be that the PTW is looking for a file/folder that is associated with the disc installed version of CIV 3 and isn't recognizing the donwloaded version.

Thanks for the help.

I don't think that's your problem. I lost my original Civ3 due to a crack in it, and when I bought PTW it never wanted the Civ3 disc, folder or otherwise. It was installed and I was playing Civ again after a hiatus.

There have been problems with the downloadable versions. I presume you're talking about a purchased version you d/l'd and not a pirated one, right? Some of the d/l versions just don't work with the expansion packs.

You can pick up Civ3 Complete at WalMart or Amazon for about $20, however.

Yes, it is not a pirated version. I bought it and downloaded it, and then I installed PTW. I double click on the desktop shortcut to run PTW, my computer spools up like it is about to start the program, but then after a few seconds the computer stops spooling and nothing happens. It's not a big deal, just wanted to know why it isnt working.

Thanks.

Like I said, there were problems with the downloadable versions as opposed to the cd based ones. Especially in mixing them.

You could try to buy the downloadable Conquests version, and that should be compatible. It includes all the PTW stuff, and then you get another expansion to boot. I liked PTW, but Conquets was much better.

You could try searching Tech Support for a solution, but I don't think anyone ever really figured out how to get the two to work together.
