Puppet cities questions

Hi folks - I'm still feeling out the game, and I've got some questions about puppet states.

1. How do wonders in puppet cities work? Do I get the whole benefit of them as thought I built them myself? I'm particularly wondering about the Great Wall.

2. I'm playing as India. Does unhappiness get calculated the same way as for the cities I founded?

3. Do puppets count as cities for policies like Meritocracy?

4. For things like the Heroic Epic, do the puppets need to have built the required building?

5. Is there a downside to puppeting other than unhappiness? Could I go for a cultural victory with a huge puppet empire?

Thanks!

1) You get the benefit. There are some one-time benefits like a free social policy, free tech, free great person that you don't get unless you build the wonder.

2) Happiness is the same if you leave the city as a puppet.

3) Puppets don't increase social policy costs, but they do receive the benefits of social policies such as Meritocracy (-5% unhappiness & +1 happiness per trade route).

4) The puppet city doesn't have to have the prerequisite building, but each puppet you take adds 30 more hammers to the production cost of each national wonder.

5) the unhappiness is the main downside. The other is the increased cost to national wonders. Both of these can get out of hand pretty fast. But yes, you can conquer and benefit from a large puppet empire.
