Quake vs Doom vs Half Life

Of my top 5 favorite games of all time: three of them are these great FPS's. However - i love and have played to death the original titles and seeing nothing else out there at the moment, i was thinking of buying the latest versions!

I played Doom 3 a little on the xbox but was thinking the PC version might be quite different. Has anyone played both??

Quake is great and have played and completed all three. What about 4 though: is it any good?

Half life is awesome: me and my housemates are currently blasting the crap out of each other into the wee hours of the morning even now! is 2 as good as the screenshots look though?

what do you reckon the pros and cons with each game is though, and most importantly - which should i get: quake 4, half life 2 or doom 3??

I dont like Quake 4 very much.....but it all depends....

Doom3 is pretty creepy, and is a little more of an adventure that HL2, but I like HL2 better

if multiplayer isnt an issue: which is the best single player game??

I have HL2 and it has great SP game! You should get it. HL2 also has the biggest mod community so after you have throughplayed the game you can download new mods.

Unfortunately the story of the game isn't allways that clear but fortunately there are internet guides which help you to understand the story better.

If you want awesome SP go with HL 2. If you want great MP, flip a coin and pick Q4 or Doom3.

IMO for SP you can't beat Doom, although HL 2 is good, I just like Doom so much more. Now for MP Quake beats the two hands down.
