Question about first meeting of AI civs

Sorry if this is a noob question, when you first meet an AI civ in game, sometimes you are "invited" to visit their capital, sometimes you invite them to visit your capital, and sometimes you both exchange information on the whereabouts of your capitals. What causes this? Is it just random?

Pretty sure it depends on whether you/them have Writing or not.... You have Writing and they don't You get Information on their Capital, Vice versa If they have Writing and you dont. When you both have writing you exchange information about your Capitals.
