Question about technology

Im playing civilization for a few days now, I love it, just the type of game I love ( did not play previous installements).

So far I love everything about it, but I was wondering if it is somehow possible to select an option or perhaps some mod that corrects it so that the technology has a cap somewhere.

For example if I want to start playing in medieval times and not be able to enter renaissance times ( nor me or the AI opponents ).

Or if I want to play only in Industrial times without the ability to move to modern times etc...

Is it possible?

Not that I'm aware of, unless there is a mod that does it.

Otherwise, I don't think you can do that, unless just on a scenario.

Btw I forgot I also have another question, how come every single map I download ( maps made by users ) apart from TSL Earth map doesn't work, it says invalid map file always and is red color in game and I can't click to select it.

Sorry.Don't believe I know anything about that.I don't ever download maps.
