Hi. I just bought the game from the GOG sale and I am really enjoying it. But I cant figure out how to manually control research and secret project selections. Thanks for any help.

Hi Diorj,

I just bought the game on GOG.com myself a couple weeks ago. You can set research priorities by pressing Ctrl-R, but you cannot control specific research unless you uncheck Blind Research in the settings before the game starts. As for Secret Projects, you "build" them like other things once you have the ability to do so, which will happen when you've discovered the prerequisite technology.

Just a bit of advice, if you want to change priorities make sure you do it just before you get a new tech. It seems to choose which one you're getting right at the start. In other words, it only checks your preferences right when it's discovering something, and therefore choosing the next project. (you can tell which type you're getting based on the color of the progress bar in "research status")

Of course there's always turning off "blind research"... Though interestingly in the expansion the alien factions can choose research while everyone else still can't.

Hi Diorg,

As others have said, you can deselect blind research in the custom game rules when starting a new game. That will allow you to choose specific techs to research.

You probably have base governors selecting what to build in your bases. The governors can be configured to build secret projects. However, you can always override a governor and force the base to build a secret project. Once you get more experience, you'll probably want to turn off the governors and control base production manually.

Thanks for the help. I 'm going to turn off Blind Research when I start my next game and see how that goes.
