Question regarding upgrading warlord units

I read someone post in another thread that made me think that if you upgrade a unit who has a great general attached, that they get to keep thier experience.

I must know if this is true.

Indeed it is, and the upgrade is free also.

That is awesome, I can't believe I never knew that.

I ussually settle GGs for the +2 experience, and the ones I did attach always seem to die in like 2 battles.

Well that's the main problem with warlord units. I normally just go for the medic III chariot and I don't upgrade it except to a gunship or else in extreme emergencies (like it is about to be killed).

I try and only attack with my warlords if the odds are 95% plus. Even then they get killed sometimes.

I did make a warlord elephant once though and it made a decent cavalryman too.
