I keep asking questions, so I decided to make a thread for them instead of cluttering up other threads with them.

What does earth's bosom do?

Huh. I have more, but can't seem to remember them. I'm sure they'll come to me as I play.

Thanks.

Alright, I remembered one. Next to the names of the nations, there are these little colored triangles. What do they mean?

The refer to the type of Leader you chose. There are three types Major, Minor and Emergent. Leaders like Perpentach, Decius, Sandolphan etc. are Major leaders, Minor and Emergent leaders are leaders that are less well known or played a smaller part in the lore. They also have unique mechanics.

To expand on what Swinkscalibur said (was entirely correct):

Those are the LeaderStatus icons, as people complained the board was too large with the actual names.

  • Single Chevron, Green - Emergent
  • Single Chevron, Star, Blue - Minor
  • Double Chevron, Star, Purple - Major

Why are even minor and emergent leaders present? Almost all are worse than Major leaders...why would anyone play them...?

Minor leaders currently don't have a mechanic, but will next version (and a quite good one, at that; Potential to be stronger than Major, though Major will rule the early game).

Emergent leaders can gain traits (again, changed next version) as you play, so you can customize the leaders; Their one trait is also usually rather strong.

Would be nice if this was written out when you mouseover a leader. :)

Hey, does Rantine's ability to convert cities if he is the strongest unit in them work based off of his base strength, or his strength modified by things like bronze weapons?

EDIT: Also, would fire strength count towards his base strength total?

Ok..and could anyone tell me, how emergent leaders are gaining traits..? Randomly or from actions they made...? I can't find it in civilopedia...thx

You gain new traits by doing certain thing like been the first to certain techs you get % chance to gain the corresponding trait. I also think you get one for founding getting a golden age I got offered the ingenuity trait when I got an early golden age. I don't know the whole list but I saw it posted somewhere so someone will.

Thanks, I just found it here...this mechanic looks really good, but because you have only %chance to gain some trait and then you loose emergent...it's kinda bleh...emergent leaders have unique traits, but not that powerful to be only with one...I find adaptive much better than emergent...

The entire mechanic will be changed soon. :p

I like this question thread.

Okay, so I'm pretty new to RifE (been playing FFH and FF until they went to hell) and was wondering how the AI does on ocean maps? As good as BTS, worse or even better?

Been thinking of playing archipelago later today with a friend but I'm afraid of finding the bots just sitting on their islands, unwilling to expand beyond them.

Poorly as of now, but after a future patch it will be much better... With about 5 minutes of xml work I had them using boats to settle when given the tech, just have to make sure they will correctly prioritize the tech.

The barbs were rather nasty with it.... Archipelago map, all the barb cities churned out galleons, crewed them, and sent them on their way. Took out two civs that way, after they had pacified their islands.

Biggest problems are: Most civs couldn't pacify their islands (Barbs will be easier/harder to deal with next version... Won't kill you, but harder to expand), and tech priorities, which will also be worked on a bit... GreyFox already has them going for fishing if there is enough water/aquatic resources nearby, and that was just added while optimizing code.

Still, none of this will be in the next version (or 1.4, either); We have big plans for units, and they will come in 1.5.

Sounds good :D

Refreshing to see so much work being done!
