Question - Unique Unit w/o override?

Hello comrades,
My question for today: Is there a way to add a Unique Unit (civilization specific) without replacing an existing one? For example, I wanted to add a next-level scout as a civilization's unique unit bonus.

It is very much possible. You just need to create a unit class just for that unique unit, but set no unit as the default unit for that unit class. Then, use the civilization unit override to make your civilization have the unit.
