From numerous AARs on HOI2, EU2, Rome:Total War, I can't help but wonder what this abbreviation is. From the contents, it's like some kind of NES and Demogame in Civ3 forums, but I don't know what exactly it is.
I always forget how such a commonplace term on one forum can mean absolutely nothing on another
Most AAR's that I see are played by one player with little input from readers, except to ask questions and give advice. A couple do play as a sort of demogame with different positions being filled in by players.
Well actually, the participation level is widley different in a NES in comparison to an AAR, kans made a small difference I suppose, having asked for advise, but thats the limit of other forum members participation, whilst a NES every member hasa direct control over a certain aspect of the game ('aspect' usually = nation, usually).
The level of involvement, like Kal'thzar said, is a key, and a major, difference along with roleplaying and story writing. In NESes all players roleplay and nearly everyone writes stories, while in AARs only the person playing the actualy game is roleplaying and writing the story for all to read.

I've never bothered asking people to vote on EU2 issues because it is so often a spur of the moment decision to attack someone who looks weak and the opportunity might not come around again. Admittedly it would work in some ways so I might try it eventually.
