protection schemes. makes sure the cd is the actual physical cdrom, not a burned copy. starforce is widely regarded as way too intrusive...it installs a hidden device driver that you must uninstall manually yourself. also up to this point makes games incompatible with x64 or any new os that starforce doesnt write drivers for. in other words, a bad thing.
I can see the side of the developer regarding copy protection, but starforce is too extreme imo...Id rather the hokey activation done by Valve, than a device driver that hides in my system. Sounds like spyware to me.
personally i just hope it doesnt make me uninstall Nero or Alocohol or something like that, i use those programs legitamatly for burning home dvd's or audio mix cd's, so far ive managed to avoid this incident, however im sure i will have to eventually
