So, does anyone know if it has SecureRom or Starforce? Also, how will we know which one it has? Will it say it on the box or during the install?

protection schemes. makes sure the cd is the actual physical cdrom, not a burned copy. starforce is widely regarded as way too intrusive...it installs a hidden device driver that you must uninstall manually yourself. also up to this point makes games incompatible with x64 or any new os that starforce doesnt write drivers for. in other words, a bad thing.

I can see the side of the developer regarding copy protection, but starforce is too extreme imo...Id rather the hokey activation done by Valve, than a device driver that hides in my system. Sounds like spyware to me.

It's much more likely for Civ IV to use Securom (which is the TakeTwo's preferred protection scheme) than Starforce. This way, gentlemen:

yeah im hoping securom too...i swore to never buy a game with starforce or steam...hopefully i wont break that with my civ 4 preorder...

personally i just hope it doesnt make me uninstall Nero or Alocohol or something like that, i use those programs legitamatly for burning home dvd's or audio mix cd's, so far ive managed to avoid this incident, however im sure i will have to eventually

I wouldn't bet that it didn't have Staforce, it seems no pirates have the game yet.
