I once had a galley attack my coastal city, and a worker bombard one of my units...and it wasn't even an extended game (finished VC). Wierd.

It reminds me of when my enemy France shot me with a zone control unit (Modern Armor I think it was) from within one of my own cities when I transported troops on my rail network past the city. :dubious: :crazyeye:

When Civ3 was first released, there was no lethal bombardment. The Cruise Missile was the only bombard unit that could do that. Patch 1.17 or 1.21 introduced lethal bombard as an editor option, and since the the Cruise Missile has been largely redundant.

They should turn the cruie missle into a land unit that also bombards, but has an attack.

They shold also allow air units to move like normal foot units over either land or sea terrain, and to make the ai use it right.

We're aiming high aren't we ;)

If air units could move normally, they'd be too easy to position and would take most of the strategy out of city placement and airfields.

Then allow only certain air units to do it. Not bombers, but some fighters.

But then how would you "attack" a air unit over land? You'd then need attack and defense values...

Also I agree with what you said about cruise missiles. In some custom scenarios I've made catapults, cannons, artillery, etc. be able to have offense and defense values and therefore couldn't just be captured without a fight.

Like I said before, give the air units that can move attack and defense values not the ones that can't.

Thanks for agreeing with me on at least 1 ONE thing.

I dunno. Might be interesting:dunno:

ANyways, your welcome, lol :D

Here is a question:

I do not have Conquests version 1.22, but am playing mods meant for this version. Some of the text is messed up, like the date always stays the same and the difficulty settings are screwed up. Where is the text file that has these labels for the text? How can I change it to fit the mod's 1.22 format?

Thanx,
MM

Hi guys, just a quicky for yous lots. I am getting near the end of a game and I want my next one to be on a map that is like our world. I'm going to be playing it on conquests and I noticed that some of the scenarios are on said map. Is it a case of starting a scenario, finding the seed number or whatever it's called? Thanks

You can just play the scenario.

AFAIK, you can't regenerate the map exactly using the seed as it has been edited manually (i.e. terrain has been edited using the editor). Seed only give you the original map before editing. IOW, you won't be able to generate a map like our world since that was created manually by a human, not by the map generator. The seed can only be used to generate a map as it was originally created by the map generator.

Of course, I might be wrong and there's a way to do this that I do not know about.

Sashie, sorry for not explaining this before, but i can't patch to 1.22. I've tried. I am one of those "no cd in the drive" victims after patching.

Knickers, if I understand you correctly you want to play a regular civ game on a real world map. If this is the case try the maps forum or look in the database. There are plenty of real world maps around without scenarios included in the package (or with very small scenarios which can easily be modded out). I would recommend Rhye's or TET's the latter of which, if memory serves, comes in several sizes.

Help!!! in the middle of a turn, my cursor disappeared. i still get the effect but not the graphic for it -- well it moves the screen but I can't get it for a unit or anything

I tried reloading the turn and that did not work. When I tried quitting and restarting, I got a Low Virtual Memory notice so I restarted the computer and plan to start that game again but I thought I would pop in here and ask first.

What makes it so away and come back? I tried a few keys but none worked

I know of nothing that makes the *cursor* disappear. You can make the buttons disappear by hitting the delete key. Backspace will change the button orientation. But I don't know of a keystroke that makes the cursor go away. Since you had a low-virtual-memory error, I suspect it may be computer related. I'd try loading that turn and trying again.

Thanks, I just wanted to ask before I signed back into the game JIC.

After switching off all victory conditions apart from total conquest I finally won on that condition. So having won on all the victory conditions I set about looking looking at the conquests folder.

Have started Rise of Rome as Carthage, I can't find out much information about victory conditions are stratgies, anyone have any tips or info?
