Yeah, I had a harbor in the capital and the crazy city. And now it's okay, so I dunno what's going on.

Thanks so much! I feel like a total nuisance. Oh yeah, and one more thing. Why is it that sometimes when you conquer a city, it just disappears, and other times you have the option to take it over...?

If the population of the city is 1 and it has less than 10 culture, it automatically gets razed. You aren't allowed to keep it.

Something REALLY weird is going on...I have only one city on another continent right now. I eventually built a harbor so it would have access to the resources, luxuries, etc. It has the harbor, and I'm still building spearmen instead of pikemen and samurai. what the heck is going on?

Oh and if it makes any difference, this city culture-flipped from the Zulu.

EDIT: That was the weirdest part: I had what seemed to be a perfectly good trading route...

Since I had a harbor both in the city in question AND in my capital, are there any other reasons the city would not have been able to build the appropriate units?

Uggh, some of these options are confusing. What does "Preserve Random Seed" mean, and how can starting positions be "culturally linked"? Linked as in, Europeans start near Europeans, etc.? And are the Civ-specific abilities the UUs, etc.?

Preserve Random Seed - For example... if you have this on and you attack a spearman with an archer, let's say you lose. If you quit without saving and reload the game and attack again, you'll still lose. If it's turned off, the seed is erased and you have a chance to defeat the spearman. Turning this option off is basically like cheating... the HoF requires this option to be on.

Culturally linked starting positions - Yep, you're right.

Civ-Specific Abilities - This means advantages such as Industrious and Militaristic.

Yes, if you have ocean tiles between those to towns and you did not have the tech to travel on ocean tiles (NAv/Mag).

If you had a one tile wide water tile that was part of the route and it was blocked. A barb could block it or any civ that you are at war with.

DISASTER!!! I was halfway to a great conquest victory and my computer locked up and I had to shut everything down :( Is there any way to recover everything after the point where I last saved? I've heard about some autosave thingy option that I think was on...is there anything I can do?

You should have an autosave folder. Start the game, go to load game, and check for the folder. It should be C:\Program Files\Infogrames Interactive\Civilization III\Saves\Auto.

If you had autosave on and it is the default, you will have a save of the game to load. As an old computer guy and vry used to lockups in civ, I save manually whenever I have done a fair amount of work.

When you start the game try the load save and scroll around looking for an auto folder.

@yagtag7: You are asking very good questions........stuff that you only learn from experience or help from people on a Great Site like this! :goodjob:

Tip: Sometimes it's just easier to post a Screen Shot of your Map Screen or even a SAVed file...........then the experts will answer your questions and probably give you a few bonus tips too! ;)

You take them by pressing Prt Scrn and alt, and then pasting it into a program like MS Paint. Then, upload the picture through a image hosting site, and then paste the URL inside
.

Woohoo got a leader! Ok since my paranoid parents' thingy blocks that as a hacking/proxy avoider EDIT: And the photobucket one too, *sigh* I'm going to have to attach this little thingy. I don't suppose it's necessary for this...How do you create an army with a leader?

*reads manual* ok so I would have to move the leader to a city? and would the army be spontaneously created or would I have to have some immortals to complete it?
