Hi, I recently bought the expansion Gods and Kings and am playing Lan with my boyfriend. We are both new at this and would greatly appreciate any help with the following questions! Thank you for your time =]

1) We usually play against AI (because I massively suck), however I was wondering if there is a way for our civs to spawn near each other on the map? I didn't see this available under the "host game" options.

2) Last night during one of our games, I can't seem to negotiate deals under the "diplomacy overview" button. Is this a bug or did I do something wrong? I could click on the city states but I couldn't click on any of the other major civilizations.

My boyfriend could offer me proposals but when I click on the little yellow button...nothing happens! We were able to trade and negotiate earlier in the game, just last night it stopped working.

Thanks for all your help!!

I don't know a way to set spawn positions in game on maps like pangea or continents, but if you play a map like north vs south it should put teams close together. I seem to recall others asking this question before but don't know if a good solution was offered.

When you can't open a new proposal, the reason is usually that you have another offer open (you need to accept or refuse it before you can make a new one) Since its only you and your boyfriend you should just need to click on his name in the diplomacy dialogue and accept or reject the open deal there before trying to make new deals with the ai.

Hope this helps!

Thank you Prim! How do you set up a game to recognize us as a team instead of separate players?

In game setup there is an option to put a player on a numbered team. Just put both of yourselves set to "Team 1" (or any other number you prefer) and you'll be good to go. You can also set AI teams like this if you prefer.

Unfortunately there's a very limited subset of map types with the 'team start' option available in Civ V:

  • Skirmish
  • North vs. South
  • East vs. West
  • Hemispheres

Which makes no sense to me, as almost every (or just every? I forget) map type in IV had the option to select a team start.

I cannot find this option in the Lan menu. When I went in to host a game there is no such option...help?

I've attached two images showing both where the team setting is, as well as the team start bias option (for those maps that have it anyway)

It's worth noting that your boyfriend will have to set his team from his computer once he joins; the host can only set their own team and the teams of any AI.

I have another question (sorry!), when playing on the same team- how do you prevent the game from shifting to the other player's perspective when something happens (ie when my boyfriend gets into a fight with the barbarians I am forced to watch the animation =[

Disable combat animations in the options menu when you set it up and I believe it fixes this. (quick combat and quick movement are what they're called I believe.)
