I know i'm in the EXTREME minority, but i would choose the Hive.

I beleive Shen-Ji Yang acts in the best interest of the people, not what the people beleive are their best interests. He is a dictator, but a dictator who cares for his people and for the survival and productivity of humans as a whole. One can't call him tyrannical because he seeks peace for his people.

although his methods are questionable (yet justifiable), his ideology is perfect:
"one must forgoe the self of flesh... for to embrace the self of group and the self of humanity is to achieve enlightenment."

One of my favorite quotes is "his" from the game: the purpose of life is life itself."

P.S. go easy on me...

I'm not sure whether I would join the pirates, the Spartans or the data angels. The pirates and spartans know how to survive and appear to value individual freedom at least. Whereas the angels are not as well geared towards survival but even more individualistic and tech savvy than the spartans and pirates. Since I study CS the data angels social and economic structures appeal to me, however In the end I believe I would side with the pirates. The seas seems pretty safe from the other factions for a couple of decades at least and they would always have a need for programmers to construct and maintain their advanced equipment. That should cover my basic needs for security (survival/economic) at least.

None. I would create a new faction called "The Ordinaries" which would restore the ideology we have today in Chiron. I choose neither of them because some either creep me out, are intolerant, or do not fit my personality. If my made-up faction is supreme enough, I would unite the Original SMAC factions & restore the political & ideological climate of Earth to Chiron. If I don't have the chance to create my own faction, I would be the Believers. I only like the factions in SMAC & not the game.

The Spartans. They seem to have the best chance of actually surviving on Planet, and also seem to be fairly liberal (as in, having liberty, not the political stance. Even if everyone says Santiago is far right.)

Sure they're warlike, but we're not conquering, we're liberating! ;)

*has Adam123 Nerve Stapled* =|

Definately the Gaians, Diedra's clearly the only one that saw the destruction of Earth and said, "Okay! Let's try to avoid that the second time around, shall we?"

I'd go with the University. Take it this way:

Our current day global society can only improve itself so far on ideology alone. Scientific advancement is the only way we can solve problems without creating new ones elsewhere.

Miriam would only tolerate you if you were a religious fanatic.

My first choice would be Zakharov for the same reasons as Jackrabbit.

Failing that I would go with Santiago as surviving is the whole point in life.

You didn't understand my post. It says that IF I DON'T HAVE THE CHANCE TO MAKE MY OWN FACTION FITICIOUSLY. Lemme guess, you're new.

No I understood your post perfectly well. All I was pointing out was that if you did join miriam you wouldn't be tolerated if you were not religious.

You are good at being condescending. I like your logic, being new on an internet forum = bad reading comprehension.

I am religious. I'm a Roman Catholic. I hate condoms & abortion makes me puke. Literally. Plus I think it's sacrilage when I see priestly garments or objects use in the Catholic Mass.

charming.

Anyways, I picked the Peacekeepers:love:. He has the right idea, we need to work together, respect human rights, build a brighter tomorrow for our children. I also realy like the University:scan:. The two factions would get along well if some minimalistic ethical bounderies could be established, IE: all human subject in experiments are voulenteers.

I look on the Moragns and the Gaians with less interest, I think their extremes could pose difficulties for a balanced, fair scoiety.

I think the Believers and the Hive are a joke.

The Peacekeepers are a good starting point for most players, Brother Lai is fair, if whiny and potentially pushy when it comes to HIS interpration of human rights. But as said before, they're all extremists in their own way, it's just a question of which particular insanity is your favorite flavor.

I chose to be one of the Stepdaughters... though as some people point out they may not be quite so utopian as it seems. I don't mind that the blurb of building a new Headquarters shows that when it comes to it they're not exactly pacifist, but I'd appreciate the liberty and they'd probably be into studying nature too, which would help them stay alive on a sentient planet in the long run. University does appeal (I'm a physicist!), but I think their society would be a bit tough, if all they ever did was science. And the Cyborgs would have been a good middle of the road choice instead of the University, as long as you didn't mind losing your mind!

Honestly, I dont really get anything extremeist out of the Peacekeepers. This might be because I only recently started playing again after a long hiatus.

That, or the world just isn't ready for radical moderates.

I've been playing a few more games, and I guess I can see it now. SMAC is a little odd with AI personalities though. Depending on the Civ's position in the peaking order usually friendly civs might become violent.

Brother Lal the peacefull steamrolled my poor little University faction last game. : (

That being said, I really do enjoy playing as the Peacekeepers or the University. The Gaians are fun too, but I find them harder to win with. I really cant see myself playing Believers or Hive though. I'm not a very aggressive player, and I always seem to be sandwitched between them.
