The qourums have been a major problem in the Demogame. They slow the game down ontop of not letting some important issues pass. We need to lower the quorums down. Also not every type of poll needs quorums.

I think we should get rid of the quorums total.... They are a major problem in this game and a plain out stupid rule.

How is the quorum rule slowing the game down? Care to give specific examples?

Science is a major one.... Quick polls still sounds like to me that it HAS to have a time restraint on it. Which means most of the polls would never pass.

I haven't noticed turn chats being cancelled or truncated due to a science poll not reaching quorum...

The only thing slowing the game down until this last turn chat was the large number of rival civs and our being on the same land mass as them all.

I like the quorum system too, as it not only keeps us from flip-flopping all over the place on our issues, but keeps out other sites from coming in here and changing our set standards or possibly trashing our Constitution.

I have a way of not letting people trash up are const. Go to the const. reform plan thread in this sub-forum (Last link in my sig)

Strider as much as quorums screw up polls and such i highly doubt that the quorums will be abolished. Personally i think the leaders should step up and press the issues instead of letting them sit there collecting dust.

Once again see the const. reforment plan thread.... As that's what I've been doing for the last couple of days.

I will also post here and would officially like to redirect all further discussion in the thread strider mentioned...

But here my comment on the quorums:
I didnt see any poll being declined by the quorum where the fault of that was not noticable in the poll itself:

Cathegory A: Timecritical Polls
Well, why use a normal poll? If its a short-decission, time critical and not plannable, a quick poll is good for it.

Cathegory B: Poll-Running time set
This is nonsense. All Polls not falling unter Cathegory A can be open-ended. The statement in there should be "Runs for 2 days or until quorum reached, whichever comes last". This way they can run for 5 days and collect votes (for example). And remember all Cat-B polls can be planned FAR beforehand! So the argument "we only have 3 days to next TC" either results out of bad planning capabilities of the leader or not setting a poll in Cat-A which would belong there.

Cathegory C: Unadvertised Polls
I noticed many polls which were not even regstererd in the poll-registry. Nor advertised in any part of the game, nor at the chat. Those Polls usually also are not bumped up if they go to page2. No wonder they dont get any votes.

As summary, imho the quorum is good. It may be hard, but good. But you have to post good polls, advertise them right and use quickpolls where possible.

I believe that will fix the problem... Runs for 2 days or intill quorum is reached.

Excellent points disorganizer.

Your help in the polling areas would be quite valuable to many citizens as you have ample experience.

@bill: in fact, i god negative experience :-) i know the rules, but can get my poll impartially written :-)
(you should know)
I also asked in the coresponding thread here on a quick-poll eligability for some poll topics we often have. all of them can be time critical. I couldnt think of others, but maybe some other people come up with example. It would be good to get a list of daily tasks and whether quickies can be used or not for them.

I think the list already included in the laws is a good one for quick polls. Things like citizen honors, borders, city placement, etc... are not critical tasks in that there was more than ample time to discuss them.

To fall back later on a quick poll because we failed to properly run the discussion and poll is a cop out.

Oh, and you don't post biased polls in my opinion at all.

Bill

@Bill:
Well, that was what rumors in dg1 said. maybe i learned :-)
Anyways it always gets on my nerve to try to post a good poll. Just too much work @-(
