Chemistry is in our hands at a monopoly.
Banking is known to the Byz and the Maya.

4 civs have techs we don't have; Printing Press, Music Theory and Astronomy. The 4 civs are Byz, Persia, Maya and France.

The time has gone to ask ourselves: Are we planning to get something out of chemistry or do we allow other civs to research it themselves ?

Random Possible trades (non-optimised):
Chemistry to the Maya for Astronomy + 1322 gold + 20 gpt.
Chemistry to the Maya for PP + Ast + Music + 350 gold.
Peace with the Byz + Chemistry for Astro + Music Theory + Printing Press + 412 gold + 35 gpt.
Music Theory + PP from France for banking + 120 gold.

My question to you is: Keep Chemistry (and banking) to ourselves or use them in trading and/or peace-negotiations ?

Astronomy is the only one we need, at since it will be @4th price, it'll cheap to self research. Chemistry will take a while for others since the difference between 1st and 2nd isn't much. Keep our monopolies, slow the AIs down! Unless we need gold for upgrades, we're ok.

There is no problem with getting as much gold and tech for our Chemistry. Those techs should be in our possession, so get as many techs as possible.

With the Byz deal, we can get 38gpt.

I suggest we don't trade any of them this time. If we wait til we get Economics and MM donsignia so that it will delay the Wonder building by 1 turn, build the Smith, go into GA, trade Economics to get Astronomy and other techs and get into Industrial Age without giving up Chemistry at all. This will give us a HUGE bonus over our opponents, especially Byzatine and Maya.

We do need to trade at the latest as soon as we research Economics - unless we want to waste time researching Astronomy when we could buy it that is. We need to start researching another tech on the path to the next age, buying Astronomy will enable us to step up and do that. It may even be that once we get Astronomy we find that there's Physics out there as well - perhaps in that case we could also get that from the profits we make off the first deal.

I suggest we wait to trade until we research Economics. I'd prefer not to speed the AI on the lower-tier research path.

At present we will research Economics and build Smiths in the same turn via the big picture. This will enable us to trade Economics safely to get Astronomy before we put any beakers in it. But the question is; we've had Chemistry as a monopoly for a long time now, how long will it stay that way? If we de trade it, there are still 2 techs before they get Cavalry.

Of the suggested trades we need to consider our war situation - we are at War with Byzantines and France. To trade we must make Peace. With Byzantines that may be fine (although we should remember they broke the last deal early), with the French - NON! We are about to start on our way through France, annexing their lands on the way to Portugal, we do not want Peace with France now.
