Random idea - make units more unique?

Okay, so I'm a crappy non-programmer and I'll probably never contribute anything of any value here. But I'm a good idea guy, so I guess I'll toss something simple out for the rest of us while the smart people are off playing with the SDK.

More promotions. Lots of them, including some new functions as well as extensions of the ideas already there. Unless someone smart beats me to it, I'd like to make a totally overhauled and expanded promotion tree with things like; attack bonuses / retreat chance from specific terrain, (small) chances to retreat on the defense, ability to cross impassable terrain and other such fun goodies. If you combine that with lowering the level-up threshholds at higher levels, you have a bunch of very unique, powerful and personalized units running around.
