Random Map

As far as i'm aware, the random map setting takes a random selection from the preset map types you can see in the advances options menu when your setting up the game.

If that is the case, then is there any map that creates a truly random map with a mixture of archipelagos and smaller and larger continents?

The closest i've found are continents+ and earth, but i would like a more mix and match type, that isn't identical every time (that's right earth, you're boring).

Sadly random map isn't really random at all.

It's only picking from Pangea, continents, and i think archipelago?

Either way, it fails horribly at actually being random.

Shuffle would be closer to random from my experience.

I too wish there was a ridiculously random generator for maps but haven't found that to be an option at all yet.

I do find messing with the advanced map options to be fun though.

Doing things like Pangea with high sea level, or Islands with low sea level, etc, changing world age for more plains or more hills, climate for more jungle/forest/desert, etc.

I've experimented with that a little myself, but i would love a proper random map generator. I've had a little look for a mod that might help, but i guess it's a little too soon after that fancy code has been released to hope for something like a map generator.

Give fractal a try. Can generate pretty unusual maps (although more continental in flavor, than archipelago).
