Lately I like to play Civ II (vs CPU) using dimensions of about 35x35. I like that these settings almost always generate a single continent, resulting in a very quick game with little to no need for naval action (which is really bad in this game imo). The problem is that maybe two thirds of the time, no matter what settings I use for age/temp/etc, the map is overrun with enormous Mountain ranges.
I know there's third party map tools, but having to manually generate, save, and load every new map is unwieldy. I also don't want to see the map before I start playing, since exploring it on the fly is part of the fun.
Are there any tools/patches that instead modify the map generation functionality within the game itself (or something I can edit in the TXT files?), so I can use the regular menus without generating all these excessive mountain ranges?
Edit: Sheesh, the very next map I roll after making this post... this time it's more hills than mountains but c'mon.
And the next one. These are.... bad.
