The quitting in this game has always been a problem. When I played Age of Empires years ago they had a very simple solution. Rated Rooms. You start out with 1400 or 1500 rating and earn or lose points with each game you played. Also every disconnect was recorded, so if you wanted to know if someone was a consistent quitter all you had to do was mouse over them. Disconnects = more points taken away. Granted some people don't have time to play for 4+ hours, so an even quicker pace may need to be implemented. If we had ratings more people would stay in games and actually try to win. The biggest problem would be balanced starts and this is a problem that should have been solved already. I have no interest in League games, unless there's a FFA League out there.

Charging people for extra Civs and 50 bucks for the game WTH are the Devs doing with our money? Do we have to pay another 50 bucks for Civ 6 to play the game the way it's suppose to work...

Yep i remember when i played a pc golf game online multi and we all had a rating and also a disconnect percentage shown. At least we could follow some suspicious guys.

But another problem is the multiple account that some players can open and play without being known.

Firaxis did not provide anything like that but we at Civplayers Leagues do. www.civplayers.com We use a modified Glicko2 skill system, with players starting out with 1500 points. We support FFA, team and duel rankings so whatever players prefer they can play and get ranked on. We also provide a moderated Steam chat for a lobby, which is much better than the regional games list with not chat that is in the game.

In AoE people wouldn't allow you in with out having at least a few games under your belt. People with 0 games were always suspect.

I'll have to try out your league CS.

We have had plans for ages for a MP mod that would add many of the things you would expect from a MP interface in the game, but we all have to wait for Firaxis to enable mods in MP, and since it has been 7 months already I suspect we will be waiting for the first expansion now, so they can afford to hire a MP programmer with the profit margin from an XP.

It wouldn't be that simple to have a rating against disconnect. This game has lots of legit reasons for quiting. Most commonly kick peoples ass in the first 80 turns and you end up with everyone quitting. Once I have victory I am not interested in finishing off an AI for another hour. Is my rating going to go down though if I don't 'finish'? Likewise once you have no chance of surival its annoying when people do things like gift off everything but I can't find fault in finding a new game rather than spending even 20 min waiting for the inevitable.

Yeah. But if a person stays for a certain amount of time there would be no disconnect counted against them. That's the way it worked in AoE. One way to get around people leaving an AI would be to have an option to erase all their lands once they quit. If you're beating their ass and they quit you were going to own their land anyway, now you just have to settle it yourself. They could also make an option that disallows City trading. But we would have to wait for Civ 6 for any of this to happen... I rarely play single player, all the difficulty levels are easy except Deity and the computer is never as good as a human player. More attention definitely needs to be focused on MP.

They will never fix multiplayer. 7 months and not a single thing to do with multi. Forget rated rooms, first fix death freez (which happens more often since the patch) This game is geared toward the unwashed masses of single player casual gamer . Rated system is so far ahead of anything that firaxis can master. I curse thy!

There is no way to qualify what a "good" reason to quit or a "bad" reason, and there would be as many opinions on this as there is players. This is why at CivPlayers we simply give players one free drop and 10min to return to the game, after that it is a quit and that equals a loss. Host and the other players in the game may extent this to more than 1 drop, but 1 is the default and it doesn't matter what reason you dropped, it could be legitimate like a power outage, but we have no way of proving that, and as soon as we allow one exuse that will be the one everyone will use, so no excuses are allowed under the rules.

A patch for mp is coming in june or july. We can hope for something better. But hey, in june it's already summer and girls in bikini are waiting for me

i have finished maybe 1 out of a thousand civ matches

the rest are all quits after victory or defeat is evident

i just want it to be stable and balanced. features are something too advanced for newbs to design and incompetent people to implement

Well quiting is something that joining the leage will solve, as to the game well Firaxis knows what it has to do, they have quite a few MP beta testers that I'm sure have been clear on that for us all. Now all we can do is wait....

Is there plans where a group of players can pause for the night and continue the next day?

Is there a league setup somewhere where you could do this?

Can I search for a special room where the players don't quit, or play shorter games?

As for a "room", yes CivPlayers runs a steam chat room for all MPers, just look in my sig for the link or come to www.civplayers.com and click on the Chatroom(steam req) in the left side menu.

As to longer games, you can likely find league players that will do that, but that sort of longer game we generally call an Epic and are organized in our forums rather than adhoc in chat. Here is an example of a group of players that did that.

Is there a link of what they have details or is it a vague statement.

2K Greg announced the patch ages ago, the June patch is the second part of the last patch. http://forums.2kgames.com/showthread.php?106718-Upcoming-Patch-Notes

And 2K Greg later announced that Hotseat would be part of this patch http://forums.2kgames.com/showthread.php?107380-The-much-requested-addition

You will notice that MP is not scheduled to get any much needed features or bug fixes in this patch, other than Hotseat which is not really MP in the sense that it uses no net code.

Why working for hotseat if mp is still unstable? I believe they will work on mp stability. 2kGreg will announce more details later.

I know i'm pretty optimistic but i can't imagine that this company will absolutely do nothing about mp. If they want to release an expansion later this year or next year, i hope they will put all the work to finally get something decent.

Getting rid of RAs and replacing this by another system(like MOO2 but with lot more variables depending of diplo status and other things) and gold amount for lux to negate some exploits(gold per turn is ok) making AI more balanced in mp. Because when somebody quit the game, the AI can be fully exploited by a human neighbor. Some players like to play cooperative games vs AI as well.

I hope you are right, but I am doubting it right now. Hotseat has nothing todo with real MP, it doesn't have to transmit data in real time at all. The most you can hope for is that they take Hotseat one ste further and make PBEM, which is basically the same as Hotseat only with saves and emailing. But internet/LAN MP and Pitboss are the ones that need stability and many many features, and I have not seen any indication that they are any were near working on that. But hopefully I will be susprised....

I not sure if there is something like this because I only played a couple online games but..

Is there an option to create nightly 2 hour game sessions, where the game is suspended until the next night? sitting at a desk complete glued for 4 hours is a bit too long, but then I do like playing on large maps with on normal speed. A tournament system would be better.

How long you play and when you play is something you have to work out with other like minded players. There is no automated system that will do this for you, and in fact I doubt there ever could be, as this is dealing with human factors not game code.
