Clovis
Charlemagne's Grandfather
Sponsor: Sullla
Opening Date: Monday, March 26
Duration: Four Weeks
Map Script: Archipelago
Landmass Type: Snaky Continents
Sea Level: Low
Game Speed: Normal
Difficulty: Noble
Civilization: Mali
Leader: Mansa Musa
World Size: Standard
Opponents: Six, Pre-Selected
Victory: Any
Version: Civ4 v1.61
Scenario: We all know that Mansa Musa is a money-grubbing scrooge in this game; why not take that to its logical
conclusions? This is a Gentle Adventure designed to provide some variant fun for our up-and-coming players.
Rules: You must set research to Currency on the very first turn of the game and cannot switch under after the
tech is researched! (This tech choice has already been pre-selected in the starting save file.)
Do not switch research to something else Mansa wants his markets!
You are also required to switch to and remain in the following civics for the remainder of the game as soon as
their corresponding techs are discovered:
- Universal Suffrage (Democracy)
- Free Speech (Liberalism)
- Free Market (Economics)
How many cottages to employ is up to you, but these civics will generally favor a cottage economy over a
specialist one.
Scoring: There is no official scoring for this game. However, special recognition will go to all players who
manage to win a successful victory (any type) with more than 10,000 gold in the bank at games end. Such players
will be dubbed tycoons and have their scores listed in a separate group. Do the best you can to help Mansa
achieve his dream of winning with style! (Great Merchants should help out here.)
Results
Results will be sorted into tycoons and non-tycoons, then listed alphabetically.
Closing Day: Monday, April 23. Reports due by the end of April 24, your local time.
Report:
Timbuktu founded on starting tile.
Gold! I can hear it jingling already. Mwahahaha!
3640BC The villagers are smarter than we are. Cottages, here we come!
3800 BC pop hut for gold (bleh) found fishing, switch Timbuktu to work boat.
With animal husbandry coming after currency, work boats are much more useful than workers.
3360 BC, Buddhism is FIDL and I get more gold from a hut. You know, gold isn't so bad after all. (If you get my meaning. Clink, clink).
2240 BC Wow, these villagers are not only smart, they're just the type I was looking for. This is a huge boost.
1960 BC Bronze working comes in and I have copper to the east
1600BC Djenne founded by marble fish, and pigs.
900 BC Confucianism founded in Djenne. This should help with some shrine income eventually.
I meet Washington, and he is the founder of Buddhism and Judaism. He immediately goes to annoyed with me.
750 BC Iron is not in sight. Unless it's in some little patch of black here or there,
we're going to have to be real nice to our neighbours.
325 BC Great Lighthouse is built in Timbuktu! (Jingle jingle) Even better because it provides great merchant points (ching ching)
My Confusionist (a.k.a. Confucian) missionaries spread out, Capac turns to pleased. I really want him to be nice, because I'm not
exactly emphasizing my military here.
800AD I build Great Library, I am currently the tech leader, but with my goal of winning by space race, I can never be too far ahead. Especially with all these financial civs around. It has become obvious by this point that Sullla placed all financials around the human player.
It was nice to get this:
1470 AD With all my stress on Merchants, I forgot about my shrine until a few turns ago. Then I micro-managed to get this guy finally:
The Confucian shrine in Djenne immediately popped me up 19 GPT, and a new missionary spam should help some more.
I go with Nationalism. Scientific Method would obsolete my monasteries and Great Library,
and I intend to build the Taj Mahal
Look at this beauty!
Wine=trade for money. (Cha-ching)
+6 Gold for eternity! (Cha-ching)
This is very nice, a well-built up city, right there for the taking. Cause me a bit of trouble taking it, with longbows on a hill, but I got it in the end.
And then this
And then this.
And this
You can tell I'm addicted to wonder-building.
In 1670, Huayna Capac, my closest friend, declares war on Washington, my worst enemy. How long do you think it will be until he asks
for my help?
It actually took quite a while. He came to me in 1750, and I acquiesced, but I never really sent anything at Washington.
Then, in 1790, this comes out of the blue.
This doesn't look to good, she has the largest military according
to the power graph.
She eventually lands a large stack near Djenne, forcing me to spend quite a bit of my hard-earned money on upgrades
to infantry to keep the city, the stack pillages around for a bit and I pick it off one unit at a time.
1820 AD, I negotiate peace with Catherine, Qin declares war. This makes no sense, he is at cautious with me during war, and that only because of the
"This war spoils our relationship." He is the same religion, and would be pleased except for the war. I don't know why he declared war on me.
In any case, he doesn't send any units my way.
Peace with Qin, he turns pleased right after.
