Hello...

Apologies if this isn't the right thread. Just wondering: is there a way to rename cities after they are founded/conquered like I could do in Civ2? I'm playing Vanilla, no patches. Just got the game last weekend after years of sticking with Civ2. LOTS of changes, a little overwhelming. My helicopters don't exactly kick butt anymore, for one thing. And I can't rename my precious cities anymore, it seems. Boo!

Great game, though. I love the improved trade and commerce. Military might still seems to rule the game, though...there's no much hope for true diplomatic, peaceful co-operation between nations -- if you don't build up a substantial army, the AI attacks relentlessly. I hope they make Civ4 with more options for those who don't want to go to war all the time...

Check the preference settings to enable all the advanced buttons. You should see a button to rename the city. You can renam units as well. I do not remember if this feture was alway in or if it came in a patch or an expansion as I have played only C3C since it came out.

To rename a city:

Right-click on it
Select "rename city" from the menu
Enter a unique city name (note: leaving it blank is not unique!)

This feature has been available since vanilla 1.00, so anyone should be able to use it.

Radagast - You will find several changes from Civ 2. It took me quite awhile to adjust. Then I became frustrated until I downloaded the patch that fixes a lot of the bugs with 1.00.

Aardvark: I tried downloading and installing the patch today (1.29) but it messed up my game and gave me the dreaded "CD not found" error that, it appears, it not solveable. I'll probably end up buying one of the expansions, which is kind of stupid since Civ4 will be out this fall. But in the meantime it will be great to have the improvements and new civs to play with.

And yeah, it's quite an adjustement -- I lose quickly on all but the easiest level...so far.
