I decided to do a quick start game and when Washington opend I had 1 Scout, 1 worker and 7 Lincolns. I ran the game thru a few turns thinking maybe it would straighten out. Can anyone explain how this could happen.

I am attahing a copy of Washington as it is now. By the way one of the Lincolns it out wandering around in exploration.

Never tried it before, but maybe you had mass regicide selected as an option when setting up the game. And though you didn't ask, raising the luxury rate in F1 is better than getting an entertainer. And don't bother with temples, as they are really only good for culture, and you have no reason to need culture at that point (unless you are going for 20k, but somehow I don't think you are). Building settlers would be much better than building the Pyramids.

Somehow I did get mass regicide selected. It was an accident. I am trying my hand at a one city game so it should be interesting with all the lincolns.
Thanks, I never tried regicide before but will look it up and see what happens.

The obelisk thingy next to your capital also indicates that you are playing with victory points. And even with one city, you'll want to use luxury slider so Washington can keep growing and finish the Pyramids faster. One question though. With one city, why build Pyramids unless doing 20k?

@LLXerxes - All those kings in the city. He accidentally selected Mass Regicide.

It was the only thing available and I figured it might be a good thing to keep someone else from having it. Also I figured it would help make my people happier. I can't find the book I had about this game so I am sort of playing by ear. What would be the reason for so many Lincolns in this mass regicide. I gather if I loose the last king I loose the game. Also I adjusted the lux slider and things are a lot better.

Another question, I did not "set the game up" I had just finished playing one of the pre-designed games that comes with Conquest. Is it possible that it just chooses the last game you played to get the concepts for the next. When I play PTW or II I get to make my own choices of what I want to do but I have not been given a choice in Conquest. How do I get to choose?

Just select "new game" instead of "quick start".

I usually do just play "new game"; but how does one go about playing a "quick start" game and get to make choices?

You can't. That would defeat the purpose. You get the exact same settings as your last game.

Ok that explains all the Lincolns.

Thanks.

BTW I am doing fairly well in the game and hope to get back to it soon.

Yes, the game does use the settings from the last game you played, even if you use normal start. That's very annoying, especially when the last game you've played was a conquest.

If I can't make a choice where do I go to select 'Default Rules'?

Ok, with 'Quick Start' you can never make a choice. The only advantage of 'Quick Start' is that it skips the first two screens where you choose the Map type and then Civs and rules. If you want to change any of that you must select 'New Game'. It's really not that big a deal; I always use 'New Game' unless I'm searching for a nice start in which case it's easier to use 'Quick Start' after the first 'New Game'.

OK leave it to the dummy here - I missunderstood about quick start. I thought maybe it meant fewer turns at the beginning or something like that. It seemed that I got further faster in the quick start. Of course I have always been accused of making assumptions without enough facts.
