Also, I have to say, Lu Zhi also had a large amount of control. Then, in the same ship as Cixi, you have Ci'an.
Though I will give you that Wu ruled in a more traditional way than the above. I just feel it's unfair to claim China only had one female ruler in its entire history.
Wu was the only direct ruler, all the others ruled through other official rulers. It's not just that Wu ruled "in a more traditional way" she was the only official female ruler who ruled in any way.

Just out of curiosity, why does all the information we get on this have to be cobbled together and translated from overseas. Did Firaxis fire their US press office, or something?

Right now we're sort of going based on rumors from Civ players overseas. Firaxis doesn't seem to have revealed anything officially.
Keyword is rumors, since as far as I can tell, it's still not 100% confirmable.

No tech trading?! What the hell am I reading here?

I just thought of it; did anyone actually say there will be only 18 civs or we just automatically assumed that?

Yes the Civilization 5 website stated 18 cubs when Civ 5 was announced.

Based upon the ranged attack mechanic being described in the most recent front page post (the one that links to this article at Atomic Gamer), it would seem that the main military component is going to be ranged units being supported by melee units. I've never been a fan of ranged combat, because it is perpetually more useful to shoot someone at a distance than close to fight them, but Firaxis may have hit upon some kind of brilliant scheme to keep things close quarters.

My first question is: what the hell are they going to do with nukes now? And are they going to remove that absurd global warming system they put in Civ4? I'll upgrade just to see my nukes actually become worthwhile again -_-
