I must admit I'm more familiar with the vanilla versions of Civs 4 & 5 and I've not much experience with any of the FFH series.

1) Would Noble be a well balanced starting difficulty level?

2) There are a lot of options in the custom setup screen, some of which are enabled by default and I'm not sure which will make it easier or more difficult. Are there any recommendations for starting options to get me going with the game until I become more familiar with it or are the default options a good start?

Thanks!

Hi!

1) Take the difficulty setting you would take for your normal civ games or even go for higher difficulties.
At the moment the barbs overwhelm even emperor ais so dont start too low.

to make it a bit easier for a starter switch acheron off. You wont be able to handle him if you get close to him

living world (double events), all unique features add additional atmosphere.

To get a hold on the game you could start off as Clan Of Embers to get some overview about barbarian behaviour which determines most of the early phase of the game. (They start off at peace with the orcish barbarians (animals are still going to attack))

No lairs option may be a good option to start with since lairs are completely unbalanced (soon to be fixed). You should probably start playing as the Hippus, Grigori, or Dural, all of which have more flexible playing styles than most other civs. Regardless of how you decide to play, read everything you can in the civilopedia. Although some of the information is out of date, there is still plenty of information that will help you survive the wilds of Erebus. Good luck :goodjob:

I usually play the Bannor in every first game with a new patch. They're a straightforward hack, slash and conquer civ. Their World Spell is simple, effective and not complicated to implement to get good results, if necessary. Strategy is simple - Beeline to Champions, pick up the Order religion etc.. and pickup a few units with new changes to them in order to test them out, instead of having to rely on mechanics you don't know at the moment.

Overall, I find them a very friendly "new player" civ. The only mechanic there that is pretty unique is the Bannor's promotion system. But, that is easy to understand given their already implied military structure once you play with it for awhile. However, actually implementing it is not necessary to play them effectively. It's very nice, but you don't need to know how to use it in order to play them to an eventual military victory.

Their early "Cleric" unit is very nice as well.

(Note: All of the above applies only to Rise From Erubus. Fall from Heaven 2 and Rise From Erubus are slightly different games, even though RiFE is based on FFH2. RiFE has a lot more options and some totally redone game elements that Fall From Heaven 2 doesn't have or presents differently. But, I'd still recommend Bannor in FFH2 for new players as well.)
