I've got Civ4 and it great, truly the best Civ ever IMO. ...but I also just got a laptop that is best suited for playing Civ2... I had planned on firing up vanilla Civ2 on it when I travel but then I thought that maybe there was something out there that I missed back when I was playing Civ2 but had not access to the internet...

So, what can you tell a guy looking for a fresh new Civ experience that's "limited" to what Civ2 can do? Mods? GFX packs? What's the best of the best? I know about a lot of stuff that's out there (made a nice one myself back in the day), but you hardcore guys are the ones I need to get answers from. Thanks!

IMHO, as a Civ4 player it would be interesting for you to make Civ2 like Civ4. I mean to add things from Civ4 that are missing in Civ2. Good things of course:) And without removing anything from Civ2.

this is weird: i spent all day at work thinking about making a religion mod for civ2 if there isn't one already. i love civ4 but i can only play it on sundays, and have since rediscovered both civ2 and 1 since 4's release.

Civ2 is very modding-friendly, but I doubt you can add whole new concepts into it. Still it's worth fiddling around with the game files (remember to back them up first!). I haven't been playing unmodded Civ2 for months. I mostly play during school breaks on my laptop.

drfish: Ideas for you...

1) Play in a Game of the Month - compete with other players to get a high score, or a fast finish... or just play for fun and talk about it later in the spoiler thread. Number 59 has just started - it is a quick and easy one.

2) Check out the scenario collections here or at Apolyton or at the Spanish site. You can read over the reviews to choose some good ones of the type you prefer. If you like to compete, you can play Jesus Balsinde's scenarios (recommended) and try to get into his Hall of Fame.

3) For something more social, you might join a PBEM or MP game or a succession game. This may take some patience, though....
