I'm running on an old video card - GeForce2 - while I try to figure out why my Radeon 9550 isn't working. Are there any tweaks or mods which I can use to get the game to run a little faster by reducing the 3D graphics load? It bogs down to seriously reduce fun if I do anything more than a tiny map.

In game Options - turn off textures and run resolution as low as possible. Make sure you have loaded Patch V1.52, there were Major memory issues in V1 & V1.09 that we addressed in V1.52. The latter Patch is a "must have", a major fix.

Harkannon's memory fix is also worth trying, though I think 1.52 corrected most of that problem. It's in the creation and customization forum under utility programs. make sure you're running low res textures and have all the graphics set to low. If wonder movies are causing the game to stutter then they can be turned off by setting "nomovies = 1" in the CIv 4.ini file, but this may not be a problem for you.

I'm using 1.52. I tried to use the graphics manipulation file to get rid of the clouds, but that didn't seem to work at all. I did find a lower-res terrain mod, and that seems to have helped quite a bit, as did not trying to play a Highland map.
