Anyone have a resource appear on the map after discovering a tech? Playing as Romans, 5 turns ago made deal with Iroquois for Aluminum (1/4 gold, maps, luxury). Two turns ago, made deal with Iroquois for Uranium (1/4 avail. gold, maps, tech). Next turn every resource from Iroquois lost due to Iroquois attacking Greece, with whom I had a mutual protection pact - no chance given to choose between the 2 civs as to loyalty - not very realistic, IMO. Bright spot is Uranium appeared on my turf this turn, where iron disappeared about 2 centuries ago. Didn't see anything about this in the manual.

There's a rule that there must be at least one instance of each strategic resource per civ (and <= 1 of each luxury per civ.)
I suspect that regeneration occurs when a resource is used up, dropping the total amount on the board below the minimum.
i.e. 8 civs, 8 iron resources - if one iron mine runs out, it must regenerate somewhere.

Resources appear and disappear randomly throughout the game. I have had a couple of games where I depleted 2+ sources of oil within a couple of turns of discovering refining, which was irritating, but made for a good challenge. Iron seems to appear more often than anything else, especially after it is obsolete. I wouldn't count on resources appearing in your territory if you don't start with them. You will probably need to bite the bullet and trade for it, or start a war.

Yeah, you have to be real careful about who you make MPP with. I had a similar situation with great relations and per turn trades w/ France. Made MPP w/ their neighbor Iroquois and was screwed out of all my trades with France when they attacked Iroquois. My best friend turned instantly into an enemy. Not sure why AI would attack when it knows its trades w/ me would be nullified as MPP would get activated.

Whether realisitic or not, MPP overrides everything and must be taken into consideration when making one. I learned my lesson and now choose very carefully who to make MPP with. It must have a very high strategic reason behind it to make the deal, don't make any flippantly.

yeah, it appears that anytime you get the msg "this source of XXXXX depleted" it *does* reappear somewhere else. so if u didn't get it in your territory, then someone else did.

and that works in reverse too. anytime you get a nice surprise "new source of XXXXX discovered", that means your opponents just lost a resource. go check and see if anyone might be interested in a trade ;-)
