Unfortunally I had not saved a saved game anymore, but this happend ( so far ) twice to me.

First I founded Buddism , then I tried to get Hinduism too, so I researched polytheism. After I have researched it, nothing happend, no religion was founded. 5 Turns LATER I got the massage that hinduism was founded somewhere else

Same happened to me in the greek world scenario, I reasearched Theology, and some turns later, someone else founded christianity.

Two possibilities, 1. he didn't always recognized when you discover a religion fist OR you get sometimes the massage later, when someone else discover a religion - I don't know, someone else made the same experiance ?

Well, im betting it means you can only found 1 religion...but I dont know...dont have civ 4 yet....

No - you can found as many religions, as you manage to get first. And in case of the greek world scenario, it would have been the first religion i would have founded

I've had a bug where if you get a religon-triggering tech for free, (from a great person or the Oracle for example), it doesn't recognise that you should get the religion. Eventually it awards the religion to me several turns late, but if someone else gets the tech in the meantime it goes to them. I've never had any problems from research though, so this probably doesn't explain the Hinduism one.

I'm currently in a game playing as Gandhi, so I thought I should found Hinduism. Seemed apt. So I set polytheism as my research goal and went on researching.

A few turns later I was the first civ to get polytheism, but no 'you have found Hinduism' pop-up appeared. My Religious advisor tells me the holy city for Hunduism is unknown. As I now have contact with all other civs, this shouldn't be possible.

Later I did found Judaism just fine, but I want that holy city.

it is unknown because you don't know of its location on the map.
