Religions in Emperor and above - observations and thoughts

Thanks. I have never tried that, but will definitely go for it in my next game. The coolest thing about this game is that there are so many ways to play.

Make sure you block barb city spawns for example - on the higher levels this is a big problem.

For that purpose, have you ever built a scout or two and just have them walk up and down the coast for fog-busting? You have to walk them carefully so that they have a movement point to walk away from any barbs they meet, but it sort of works. Of course, they can't fight like Warriors. That's the trade-off.:)

Ive been stuck on noble for a while now. Can you guys offer any tips on how to use this for less experienced players?

I usually find that if I go for religion, it usually hurts my rapid expansion. I will go for hinduism if i start with mysticism, but if I dont what religion should I go for?

None. :)

Generally speaking, the fewer wonders you build, the better. Focus on those you really want in accordance with your general strategy.

Generally speaking, that is good advice for most players. The calculus changes if you get a 50% speed bonus in building wonders (Industrious leader). It changes further if you have the stone/marble to build it faster. If you have both, as I often do, then wonder-spamming in Thebes will elevate my capital to 50K culture very fast -- to say nothing of the benefits derived from the wonders themselves. On the other hand, the military leaders must follow a different path and be more selective about which wonders to build.:)

Any suggestions for a rooky as to which are most important? To give you an idea of where I am, I usually play noble, marathon games and start the following build queues:

1. Warrior/2nd warrior until i grow capital to size 2.
2. Worker
3. Stonehenge
4. Worker
5. Worker
6. Warior to escort a settler
7. Settler

I generally research mysticism > polytheism > mining > bronzeworking (If I have one of these to start with I obviously skip it)

I chop the workers and settler.

After I settle my 2nd city, I usually leave one worker to imporve my capital, (building a second wonder usually the oracle or pyramids)

The other 2 workers I bring to the newly founded city to chop a worker for that city. I then chop a settler and have City 2 build a new warrior to escort the new settler.

Those two workers basically continue the chopping process until my research goes to 60%, then I just have them do imporvements. Sometimes I dont chop directly to a new city if it has few or no forests but an older city has plenty.

Am I too ambitious with wonders?

I know that this process is a bit rigid, and each start must be customized based on leader and surrounding terrain, but as a general adaptable guideline, can anyone offer me some improvements?

I think most people would get out their second settler before building Stonehenge. Especially at Noble, you can easily afford to delay building Stonehenge. What leader do you play? Also, you don't need 3 workers in the capital even before you get out your second settler.

I always choose random leaders but adapt my strategy based on who im playing.

Ill have to try only making 2 workers then a settler then stonehenge and see how that goes.

- Build a worker before anything else, unless you have no ressource to work any time soon.
- Learn to live without Stonehenge.
