I know the costs scale with era
But how exactly?
In the Ancient and Classical it is 100% (e.g. 200 for the Pagoda or 150 for the Monastery)
1. In Medieval era, a Pagoda costs 300 faith and in Renaissance 400, right?
so thats 50% cost increase per era?
2. I dont recall if i ever bought a Pagoda in the Ancient era, does it cost 50% (thats 100 faith) there?

In my experience it costs 200 in Ancient, classical and medieval eras, then it goes up in Rennaissance to 300, 400 in Industrial, 600 in Modern, 800 in Atomic and 1000 in Info.

So no, it's not cheaper in ancient Era, and the increase isn't a fixed percentage.

Well, technically the formula is that it increases by 100 per era with that amount doubling for Modern/Atomic/Info eras.

those numbers are pretty prohibitive.. whats the purpose of such a design?

Probably Firaxis intended religion to be supplanted by trade and diplomacy (via World Congress) as a major determinant in interactions between civs. Sort of like how the Apostolic Palace in Civ IV became less important as the UN developed. I'm guessing it's their way of modeling the increased secularization of postindustrial nations.

I think the idea is that the industrial era should change the focus from religion to ideology. The industrial era is probably the last era when purchasing a religious building may worth it and also the era that makes it possible to get an ideology. By modern era the focus should be completely switched and new happiness and culture/tourism bonuses should come from ideologies rather than new religious buildings. Religion is not completely abandoned as you can use faith to create great people depending on the SP trees you completed.

That's really odd because there was a topic that was started about this same issue, so I looked for it and couldn't find it. However, I do remember that in the advanced eras such as information, faith building purchases do cost up to 1000 faith.
