In a recent multiplayer game I had a religious battle with a friend that turned out to be quite one-sided. While our game was multiplayer, these pointers should translate to single player.
For the curious:
One thing we didn’t get to test: can naval units condemn heretics? If not, that leaves no religious defence for large coastal empires...
For multiplayer, religious now feels a bit broken for our group so it’s a banned victory condition.
For the curious:
- Apostles can attack from the water to land but cannot attack from land to water.
- Land units embarking cannot “condemn heretic” on water and it’s not possible to “religiously fight” on water. If your religious unit is in poor health, flee into water and you’re basically safe.
- An inquisitor (or other religious unit) parked in a city can be attacked if you are at war. (Can’t be attacked in the city if you are at peace).
