Remaining in one Era

Is there a way I can change the options so civs cannot advance pass the Classical age or modern ere, etc etc? I think the game progresses too quickly and would like to remain in a certain era as long as I please.

That would be an interesting game... I think someone should mod that as an option sometime. Post it in the the creation and customazation forum.
