Remember playing civ the very first time?

The first time i played was at least 6-7 years ago at a public library that had a few computer games (like Oregon Trail & Magic School Bus). I had no idea how to play... I didn't know unit stats (nor were they displayed), resulting in an huge army of offensive phalanxes, and every once in a while they showed me a picture and asked me to name the corresponding tech (i had no manual to consult) so when i guess wrong all my units returned to their home cities... I never made it pass musketeers since I never had the time. I do remember that the units had different graphics than what I'm playing now. After they removed that game from the library I didn't play it again till two years ago when I downloaded it as abandonware (where I also found Civ II).

I remember making militias. Many many militias. I never advanced because I had one trade only

. And then some crazy red cavalry killed my city

I got the game today. Basically, I was France, and had a single city, Paris! I made a few wonders, it was at cheiftan level, I tried to make Orleans, but it died out I assume due to famine.

So, then barbarians raided my little island, then the Russians declared war on me, then famine started hitting Paris, but I survived untill the end of the game.

I didn't win, but hey, it was my first game of Civilization I!

Better then most of us :)

Welcome to the world of civ1 :D
