The free 3 month suscription i got for Norton Anti-Virus is up. I don't intend paying £30 to renew it - but i cant seem to remove it off my system no matter how hard i try. If i go to the remove programs bit, it says 'Symantec Live Reg cannot be removed at this time because the following applications require this component: Norton Internet Security, Norton Anti-Virus'.

Every 5 minutes i get a box popping up telling me my suscription has expired and i should renew it. It's immensely frustrating.

Does anyone have any ideas on how to sort it?

There should be an option that stops that pop-up.
Go to options--> Misc--> and then unchek the "Alert me when subscribtion has expired".

Should work.

If you want to uninstall it, try contacting Symantec support.
I read somewhere that there was an error in one of their builds that prevented easy uninstallation.

And since you will be unprotected (well you are in a way right now as well, since you dont have ability to update anymore), try AVG virus scanner from Grisoft (google for it, since I cannot remember the url). It is free of charge for personal use

One of theirs? :P

When removing Norton, always consult their website..... or you risk breaking your SSL. (secure socket layer.... menaing you would no longer be able to interact with secure websites).

Try Start>Control Panel>Add or Remove Programs Find Norton and hit Remove.

No... check thier support website for your particular version of Norton. There is also liveregupdate, personal firewall, and a few other components that may need to be removed first.

Its things like these that make me never recommend Nortons to customers at work.

For older computers, it is worse than a virus itself.

I don't think much of it either. Unfortunately my computer is new and most new computers these days come with 3 free months of Norton installed.
