If I change the name of a starting unit from its original name the game will crash. Regardless of what unit I tell it to start the game with or its abilities/etc., if the name is different the game crashes. Anyone else noticed this or found a workaround?

Thx

This is how the Civ3 program works with unit:

For each unit there is a folder with that unit's name under CivilizationIII/Art/units. Take scout for example, there is a folder called CivilizationIII/Art/units/Scout. And inside this folder there is a file called Scout.ini plus all the animation and sound file for scout unit. This folder and the ini file is what make the scout unit works in the game.

So when you change a unit's name in the game, the program cannot find the folder that associated with the new name and thus it crash :D

What you need to do is also rename the folder to the new name. Also remember to rename the ini file to the new unit name. After doing these two step your game will not crash. I have added 8 new units and no crash :king:

what goods is an option in an editor if it causes the game to crash? Granted you can work around it but honestly if wasnt for Dark Sheer explaining it how would anyone know? Is there a manual or some sorta instruction on the editor and how to use it fully?

would be very helpful

I agree this editor is less than stellar. However, those of us with past mod experience and/or a little background in programming and/or enough resolve have been able to figure it out on our own.

And I believe there IS a help file, but I haven't looked at it.
