If you destroy a civilization does the rep of othe r civ changes? and what bout their stance toward you? I was just wondering.

If a civ is at war with another civ they will forget what you have done to their enemy. If a civ is destroyed they will no longer be enemies so some civs might remember if you have done something to the now destroyed civ.

There is no rep hit just for destroying them though.

If you destroy a civ during 20 turns MA, you will get a rep hit.
Are you sure about this. I thought that the purpose of the MA was to destroy the other civ. Does this also give a rep hit if say civ4 destroys the civ3 that you and civ 2 had a MA against?

Just doesn't seem right.

@Tubby: try the Fall of Rome scenario. Sign MAs against either Roman civs. If you destroy them, the others will be at least cautious.

Is it because you enter into an MA to fight the civ, not necessarily destroy it? That is, with the enemy civ no longer around, you are no longer able to fulfill the conditions of the pact.

I have Conquests but do to my RL & xOTM I haven't had time to even attempt the Conquests. Plus I'm trying to master game concepts first before I try the scenarios....

So what about the question that I posed in the earlier post?

You mean if any other civ destroys the civ you have MA against. No that is no rep hit for you.

You mixed rep with attitude.

Destroy a civ with MA has no rep hit. Many players take advantage of this. For example, if a civ is about to die, MA with a huge gpt deal. As soon as the civ dies, deal ends without rep hit.

Say you are at war with A, and B is paying gpt or exporting resources to A for some tech deal.

The moment you destroy A, B will get a rep hit as the deal ended prematurely.

If you and C are at war with A, C likes you better since you have a common enemy. Once you destroy A, C will not like you so much as you do not have a common enemy anymore.

so i guess there is nothing wrong with using 100 nukes and then moving in a warrior into their cities :)
If you are the first to use nukes there is attitude consequences but no rep hit. I think that even if you are not the 1st then it still hurts their attitude a little too.

I was thinking this but I wasn't too sure of myself so I didn't argue with trooper...

Well, well, well...

I had second thoughts about this after I went offline yesterday. Remember the old man's been through far worse than this on more continents than he cares to name. ;)

But if you annihilate a foe during, let's say, the 7th turn of a MA - you are actually breaking a deal... But you take no rep hit.

Breaking deals, whether you are responsible or not, is the worst thing you can do (regarding future deals).

@Tubby: forgive me for being so hardheaded yesterday. I thought about the Fall of Rome thing I told you and found out that signing MA against Rome actually made me break a deal. One of my horse resources was part of the deal and we used the roman trade network before the deal, so after declaring the deal was broken (alas, we could not use their trade network anymore).

Sorry about that, but as you can see someone will always be here to save the day! ;)

Don't worry about it. That's the great thing about these forums is that there are always people here to set you straight. I'm still learning so I don't push very hard when someone contradicts me. If I thought I knew something then I'd fight it to the end.... ;)

What about this: You are fighting CivA and they have one city left. You bribe CivB into a MA against CivA. You destroy CivA on the same turn. Wouldn't you find yourself at war with CivB then?

No you wouldn't. And if you pay gpt for a tech together in the MA with B, you immediately get your gpt back without trashing your rep.

MA is rather special. You can end it by destroying the enemy.
