I am sure that it would clear up a little confusion if there was a set reason page to click on that link.

I am a little confused myself. Is it ok to use the option to:

  • Report double posts
  • It is off-topic

There was a discussion on this matter concerning the GD forum, in which Gonzo stated that it is allright to use in case of "newbie" posts (iow not reading before posting) and things like posting "old" strategy again (iow double threads)
Double posts isn't permitted through the rules and OT is just a can of spam: as long as it's a clear violation of the forum rules, you should report it.

I use it simply to highlight certain threads/posts (can be either positively or negatively). I once even reported a useful post and recommend it to be stickied thru this mechanism. ;)

In general, I don't think that there is normally any feedback given to posts that are reported via this means.

I've actually had feedback when I PMed Lefty about an issue - and I must say that the feedback was appreciated (Lefty said that the issue required no mod action FWIW :) ).

Perhaps feedback to the posters reporting threads would be a good addition? :hmm:

Well, it isn't a chat function, is it? If no visible action follows though, it doesn't work properly.

"This is ONLY to be used to report spam, advertising messages, and problematic (harassment, fighting, or rude) posts."

You get the above instruction on the form that comes up when you click the report post button.
It sends a e-mail to the moderators list for the forum. The email and return adress is from the civfanatics emailer, thus it cannot be replied to directly by the reply button. If a reponse would to the reporter were deem necessary, his e-mail dress would have to be copy and pasted after clicking reply, thus even when a moderator repies directly to the report, the reply is commonly misdirected.

I'm far to lazy to have another level of responce added, so forget us answering each one. :p

Report posts are important, you can report anything you think is wrong, if we agree, we will deal with it. ;)

I never get one in my forums... :hmm:

Must be the auto-mailer thing not working... (but, Gonzo does get them)..

Make sure the e-mail you used to join the forum is still active, Cheiftess.

Maybe you should set up a seperate hotmail account just for the report posts function.

It is active. :)

I get the mass-announcements that Thunderfall sends at times.

Mayhaps nobody has yet need to report problems with the threads within your moderating spectrum.... :)

Actually, it's been tested... :)

It's gonna be tough to send mass emails again. *sigh* Telefragged installed some email filters and the additional rules checking made the mass mailing process 2 or 3 times longer than before. It would take about 5 hours compared to 2 hours in the past to email 20,000 members.

Kick the crap out of those little ****holes ;)

Errr...I mean.....leave it running overnight ;) :)

Meanwhile I haven't gotten the report posts in a while...but I think people have reported posts(but I can't be sure)

If they don't agree with it, watch out!!! Nothing worse than a buisy mod that feels bothered! ;)

(just kidding, although I have been banned twice just after reporting threads... :hmm: )

I reach for the "report" button as a last resort- I have actually taken to PMing people whose posts cross the limits and warning them that they might get in trouble. Straight up swearing is rare, but I have reported such in the past and would do so again (unless it is Sun Tzu of course! ;) ).

Sultan, report such posts to the staff, we will handle it.

I appreciate your effort, but it's our job to handle it. ;)

Report that to Thunderfall, not to a moderator.

@Lefty- Swearing, or moderator swearing?

@AoA- okay, okay... I just don't like to see leftists euro****s join the ranks of the dissappeared! ;)
