Which gov do we want to aim for.
Republic is considered the best gov but as this is a multiplayer game, wars could last a long time and war weariness could become a problem.

personaly i would choose monarchy, mainly because i played with persia the most and because war weariness is annoying and also doesn't republic have to pay for each unit? or is that just democracy (sorry a bit rusty, haven't played civ in a while)

I always go for monachy ... quicker to get

But I do play in mid difficulty range ... it will be interesting to see what experts think

It also depends on what techs I pick up with goody huts and swapping

Despotism's Unit Support
Town - 4
City - 4
Metropolis - 4

Monarchy's Unit Support
Town - 2
City - 4
Metropolis - 8

Republic's Unit Support
Town - 1
City - 3
Metropolis - 4
Two gold per unit over the support limit.

Democracy's Unit Support
Town - 0
City - 0
Metropolis - 0

I voted Republic, based mainly on my own style of play. I usually don't research Monarchy, instead I focus on trying to gain a lead towards Republic. I can usually trade for the lesser techs I missed once I have Republic.

However, there is still a while before we'd have to commit one way or the other.

But I do play in mid difficulty range ... it will be interesting to see what experts think

ditto that. I suppose much of it comes down to how many turns we'd be under Despot (@lesser production) vs. how much we'd gain production-wise under Monarch. Complicated.

Another option could be going to a Feudal government. This is really great for civs that will have lots of towns.

Support:
Town: 5
City: 2
Metropolis: 1
Each unit of the support costs 3 gpt.

I voted Republic because the other teams could go Monarchy and that would give us a huge science advantage over them

Isn't republic greece's favorite goverment type?

I vote republic.

if Republic is greece's favorite gov and it gives us a science advantage then i vote Republic
getting techs is more important than putting out units in the long run and valueable trading techs can't be replaced

I vote for Monarchy.

If we were to get in a war we would have war weariness if we were republic.
Also, If we went with monarchy we wouldn't have to pay as much unit support, and therefore could keep our research high.

I still think we should aim for republic. If it looks like war is imminent we could shift research towards Monarchy relatively fast. We'd still be in despotism (presumably) and therefore weariness would not be an issue while the research continued.

What governments are the other civs likely to pursue?

I've played Greece a few times - though I'm far from being an expert. Seems to me that Republic combined with Scientific and Commercial is just TOO powerful to pass up.

We should shot for the Republic

It depends on how close we are to others.

If we are next to them - let's hit Monarchy and stay in it till they are wiped off the face of the earth.

If no one is near us - then let's do Republic and roll in with our bombers over their musketmen when the timing suits us. :D

Can't vote therefore.
