I was wondering if there is anyway to see how tarnished your reputation is in Civ 3. Civ 2 always told you how much of a jerk you were  , I can't find anyway to see it in Civ 3.

If the foreign advisor says "They would never accept such a deal", or something like that, your rep is toast.

That makes sense, so if he says like "This deal would probably be unacceptable" or whatever he says, my rep is ok but it's a bad deal.

And is my rep ruined with civs I haven't met yet?

For instance I've pretty much conquered the continent I'm on, and the Babs and Chineese hate me, I haven't met 4 other civs cause I can't get to them yet. Is my rep toast with them as well?

Your rep is only ruined if the civs you treated miserably lives until they get contact to other civs. However as soon as it is told to one other civ it will tell it to all the civs it knows and so on.

but wouldn't you also get that message if there was a trade embargo against you?

OK so I guess it would be a good idea for me to whack the remaining cities left on my island before we contact the rest of the world.

Thanks for the info guys.

actually, reputation is neglectable in the game. in what circumstance do i need 'reputation'? I can't think of any. all i need is a powerful army, so that every civ have to knee before me. Especially in deity level, to be respectful means to be militarily powerful rather than to be a pitiable one with 'good' reputation. What i always do is breaking a peace treaty immediately after i got what i want from the peace treaty. What is 'perfect' reputation? i think it means every tile of the world is under my control so that no one can say anything about my reputation. ha ha ha.

On Deity, I think paying gpt is essential, but that's just me. When gpt is no longer and option, then I use the pointy stick, but gpt is more reliable, as pointy sticking can rely on having someone with the techs right next to you.

your rep goes down the longer you go in my games. everyone hates me by industrial but doesnt attack. in the modern they attack me only to get their buts kicked by my waiting army on railroad tiles. meanwhile back in the stone age they only fought each other and made pacts with me, their best friend.

Actually, I believe, your rep goes down more as you break deals, peace treaties, MPPs, ROPs and so on, I don't think it has anything to do with the length of the game or the age you are in...

the other civs rep of you does go down when you violate treaties but sometimes you have too. when two nations are at war and one offers to ally with you and accept, then the other nations army may coming knocking at your door. but if you refuse then your rep is only hurt between that nation and any of its allies, but goes up with the nation they're against. thisis why as the game moves on people start to not like you since you start to become a threat to them.

You have a powerful army, you don't need to buy techs from the AI by gpt, and you are playing deity. You must be a too good player then. In fact, you may be the best that I know of.

There is no peace treaty rep. And this tactic is frowned upon by many players.

What does any of that have to do with your rep? Your rep is basicly how trustworthy you are!!! Not how you prefer one civ over the other when forming an alliance, not how much of a threat you are to anybody.

contact with other civs = lead in tech = money (in vanilla civ3) all i do is just buy the latest tech and sell it to all the other civs. what i get is always far more than what i spend.
i have so much money that i can buy myself a strong army in one turn
i ever heard that there is some modification on this tech trading in later versions or patches. otherwise it is really too easy.
