Well just as the title says, carriers being able to carry and deploy a B-52 jet is beyond stupid. The way Civ V handled it seems better by only being able to have jey fighters or previous era bombers.

The options that could be added can be either carriers being able to transport the bomber but not being able to deploy it as an attack, you'd need an engineer to create an airfield or capture a city and rebase it there to bomb something, or just give them way more range so they can operate from your cities or an airfield further away

Or, hear me out here, you could design something as simple as an "On-Station Air Refuel" unit ... like they have in this funny thing we call "real life" when bombers (and other aircraft) need to travel half way around the world when they need to manage fuel resources.

Or we could just recognize that bomber units represent a wide selection of forms of ground-attack airplanes (as opposed to air-combat airplanes, which are lumped together as fighters), and the use of a B-52 for the picture is just a graphical shorthand.

You're not actually operating a squadron of B-52s from your carrier. You're deplying a carrier air wing worth of carrier based bombers and strike aircrafts like Skyhawks, Intruders and Corsairs heavily laden with bombs. But since the game tries to keep the number of units reasonable it represent all forms of bombers with the image of a B-52.
