I am just about on my way to begin a resources mod for Civ3, i just wanted some ideas from you guys before i started it,

1, thing i was wondering, do you think i should add EVERY Resource from Civ Call To Power and CTP2.
Onces i was defintly going to add was

Tactical Resource = Hardwood. found in forest, needed for building all early ships (frigate, privateer etc.)

Luxury=Tobbaco, found on open grassland (tell me if you think it should be found somwhere else)

Luxury=Glass aswell, found on Desert terrain

Howver 1, these are only the definites, and there will be all the others from CTP1-2 and i will be using alot of graphics from the "Resource.PCX" in the Civ3 folder....

in v 1.2 i am hoping to add

Bisson (as in Civ2)
Paper (as in Civ3 Beta version)
Walrus (as in Civ2)
Possibly Sheep
Silver
Copper (tactical resource for early in the game)

With Paintshop Pro its possible to make perfect Civilpedia backgrounds, so ill be using that plus all Resources will have a Civilpedia entry with loads of Info......

SO GIVE ME YOUR THOUGHTS AND SUGGESTIONS [dance]

wouldnt adding to many resources make the game to complicated? what would be the point in making that many recources? how does it add to the game?

well as long as u dont add too many strategic resources then it should'nt hurt.

some important resources.

Cannabis
Titanium

dont call it cannabis, hemp as strategic resource and it should be needed for sails.. hemp has it's usages for a luxury resource tho

Shut up Vyan you idiot, say something positive for a change

:Tank: :Rocket:
Vyan Me

Crappy Josif Stalin Tanks

and to the guy who said add cannabis and titanium

well, cannabis was hardly even know to anyone except the Native Americans untill the 1800 and could hardly be classed as an essancial resource throughout history, then again POPPIES like in CTP could be

and Titanium is an alloy duh... that means you cant find it naturally accuring and is man made,
:vomit:

oh and so what if cannabis wasnt known to anyone until the 1800's.....niether was oil? or uranium for that matter.....but thats still in the game

Hey cool it SMIFFGIG's. I don't know whether or not you've got a "personal history" with Vyanvotts, and I don't care. The guy asked you three sensible questions, much the same as I would, and you blew up in his face. If your ideas are so fragile that you can't answer simple questions about why they're good ideas in the first place, then you shouldn't be posting to a public forum. (We moderators can of course help you with that ;) ) So take a deep breath before continuing... :)

By the way, you need to get your facts right too! Titanium is NOT an alloy. It is NOT man made! Titanium is an element, atomic number 22, and occurs naturally in the minerals ilmenite and rutile.

Sorry stormerne, if anybody else would have asked those questions i would have sensibly answered them, its just because it was Vyan that i didnt..
My mistake about Titanium, but i choose not to include it as it is only really used to alloy, eg aeroplane wings. and im not going to make this a resource mod with 20 different metals, just so it is realistic (if u get what i mean)

Adding to many resources would make the game complicated, however so far i am only adding 2 tactical resources (hardwood for frigate, privateer etc and copper needed for chariot, hoplite etc), the rest are luxury or bonus( inculding cotton, bisson, paperetc)

So hopefully since there are only 2 tactical resources it SHOULD make the game more fun rather than more tedius with every unit needing like 3 different resources to build

the point in making that many resources is partly to make the game more realistic, exciting and restoring some of the gameplay elememts from civ2 (with the wulrus, bisson etc) and adding resources i class as essencial for a civilzation game which are not already in the game (eg tobbaco, pearls) :crazyeyes :scan:

Please note, SMIFFGIG's, that flaming (particularly when lacking adequate humor or writting skill) are not allowed at Civfanatics. Thuderfall tries to maintain a site a site with a freindly and collegial atmosphere. Aslo note that posts off topicand especially short repeated nonsense posts are prohibitted spam. Spam is particularly offensive in the Civ3 forums because of the high number of posts. Please remain on topic, both as to the thread (even your own) and the forum subject.

ok for gods sake, ive already been told be the MODERATOR, and i have said sorry, and answered the questions. and wont do it again.
I listened to the moderator, but for you to post after all this has taken place is pointless and trouble making, so will you please mind your business even if you have nothing better to do but post thousands of replies on every single subject the forum has going. This inicident has finished dont keep it going because you have nothing better to do.

Its always a good idea to add more resources:)

However, I doubt that copper would be a good idea. When the AI run out of the major resources like oil, rubber etc it would build spearman (which need no resources). So....if copper is added then AI would have to build warriors ?

I love the idea about hardwood though. At the moment, I did not add any new resources to my own mod yet but I did change the rules so that iron are required in almost every later unit (iron are needed for infantry, battleship, etc) so they indeed need 3 resources to make!!:D

On the matter of luxuries, I believe one needs to remember that luxuries give happy faces at a multiplier effect. At the moment with 8 luxuries ---> 1x2+2x2+3x2+4x2 = 20 happy faces. Assuming we add another 2 and work along this line it would be 20 + 5x2 = 30 happy faces !! It might make those citizens a little to happy IMHO.:king:
