Resources visibility bug?!!

Hey, just discovered this, what an excellent resource. Amazing amount of valuable information.

Here's my question:

I just upgraded to/installed Conquests, and it's great, but I seem to have a serious bug that I can't find documented anywhere.

Specifically, I can't see resources on the map. I'm in the middle of a game now, can't see horses or saltpeter anywhere on the map. I thought maybe they changed it so that you can't see the resources of other players, but I just conquered a city and now have access to saltpeter, but can't see it on the map!

When I go to my Trade Advisor screen, it indicates that indeed I have access to it, and it lists the city that the resource is nearby. But it's simply not there. Not on the map, nor on the city local map. It makes it difficult to play, because for example I need to get access to horses, but can't figure out where they are, even though I've explored or mapped the whole world by now.

To make it weirder, I <i>can</i> see iron, both on my territories as well as the AI's. Same with luxury resources. Weird, right?

I upgraded Civ3 to the latest patch, but didn't install any of the beta patches for Conquest cause they're beta.

Has anyone else had this problem? Does anyone know how to fix it? I'm on Win XP, on a Dell Inspiron 4150, for whatever that matters.

I'd appreciate any help anyone can provide, thanks very much in advance. Feel free to hit me offlist at blurfinch @ ho t mail.com

Thanks again and thanks for the whole damn site.

it's not a bug, you're just not looking right :P

maybe there's a city built on top of the resource

The city you captured was probably built on top of saltpeter. If you press ctrl-shift-m you can see the map cleared of all cities - this will show whether or not saltpeter is under the city.

You can also right-click on the city and ask for the terrain info.

Welcome onboard :-)

try <ctrl>+<shft>+<m> to reveal the map. This helps enormously to check for ressources.
You'll find this and other map features, when you go to "main menu > map"

you guys are right, but you forgot 1 thing...

Welcome to CFC!!! [party] [dance] :band: :cooool: :yeah:  :)

I havent had a problem with those resources, but using Sn00py's graphics I cant see sugar or tropical fruits even with <ctrl>+<shft>+<m>, it does list it in text when I right click and get terain details for the square.

In several player-made mods I've tried, the new resources (tobacco, sugar, and oasis) aren't visible on the map. You still get the benefits, but you can't see them. Makes them a little tricky to find!

I suggest to look for the C3C-upgrade for a given graphics modpack.
You shouldn't expect "older" graphic mods to support "new" features.

And btw, there is nothing wrong with the patches. Install them in the right order and install the correct language version and you won't have any problems. I haven't encountered anything bad since I've used 1.15: except for the bugs that still need to be fixed, it's better than 1.00.

I've had problems with sn00py's mod displaying certain terrain types as completely other other terrain's graphics

grassland being jungle etc. this was in ptw though, and i removed sn00py's graphics etc

Make sure if you are using a terrain mod that it is one designed for C3C. There will be problems if you try to older mods with new versions.

wow, you all are geniuses (or maybe just fanatics...)

in fact, it was the simplest (dumbest) answer, which is that cities were built on top of the resources ... but I didn't know about ctrl-shift-m trick, so that's exactly what I needed to know

many thanks to all of you. I'm sure it's not my last question, and in the meantime, I'm catching up on all my back reading through all the forums.

thanks and thanks again...

I had probleme finding ressources on the map on my first C3C game because the apparence of it changed.... saltpeter for example is brown/grey instead of a Clear White in Civ3, also Coal isn't as big in C3C that it was in Civ3
