Thanks Solenoozerec to put the question so precisely

I think the picture will look even more different if poll would ask the following questions:
1. Do you think that you personally will be hurt if this game will not be restarted?

No, I did not build knights templar and I can live with an altered tech/unit tree

2. If it will be restarted?

Yes, I'm in 550 AD and have only next weekend to finish (being Austrian, I desperately want to play the Austrian game).

Which means that I disagree with Sir Pleb's and Solenoozerec's pessimistic arguments. I'm confident that most participants will not argue for their own personal benefit.
Actually I think we were concluding the same thing as you seem to be saying. I.e. that most people have probably been voting for what they think is the greater good, allowing for those others who they think will be hurt by the glitch in this game. And that if people are asked to actually vote selfishly instead, just for where they stand in their own play without considering others that the result would lean toward playing on, especially from the players most affected.

To me, the majority voting for restart measures the degree of dedication they are willing to put into gotm. many posts (including mine) point in the direction they they will accept a re-start. The majority still trusts gotm; I think this is a good sign. :)

The reasons against a re-start made by those those who are - naturally - more effected by such a decision than others (in-game - by giving away a good position - or in external ways - e.g. lack of time) seem grave to me.

The 'minority' actually might be the group that should be heard on in this case. They seem to be the side that *looses* more than others. I think I can say that even without a new, weighted poll. It's human nature.

Even with the patch solution there would appear inequalities of patched games towards those games which are already submitted. As mentioned, patching will cause a great amount of work for the staff and they (resp. Ainwood ;) ) should not get punished in a heartless way of "you messed it up, now fix it". I think nobody wants this. It would hurt the community, too. To illustrate this I can say at least I am curious for last month's results and want to see them counted and posted. :)

What about this solution: give a list of the ... ehm ... "changes" and move on with the game as it is? This could be the solution causing the least degree of inequality - the few already submitted mastered the game as it is, found out by themselves or didn't even realized there were bugs. All others could adapt to the "changes" and finish their games like a regular competition game.
Playing on leaving it as it is without any additional information would need a spoiler rule that cuts out the irregularities to keep the games even more balanced. To leave this option open to choose, we therefore cannot start a spoiler thread until decision is made.

[meta] I really appreciate the fair discussion about this. Noone's complaining, everybody is looking for a way to deal with this problem .[/meta]

I read through all messages and count votes only from those who reported as playing this game and being after 1000BC. This how it look like:
1. MiniMe, Ignas, Ronald, Horragoth, Cat Behemoth.

Although I didn't say it outright, I had assumed it was clear from the context of my posts. I'm in that category as well.

I'm also up to about 600 AD. Both of the other wonders were built off island and will have little or no impact on my game.

My major concern about a restart is lack of time (as Bluebox mentioned). I was hoping to finish in time to play GOTM 38. If we did a restart, I'd probably have to choose between them (from my wife's point of view, not such a bad thing). I'll probably play the 'official' Austrian game (either the original or replacement) just to enjoy the flavor of the new tribe, so GOTM 38 would probably get skipped.

What might be a better question is how many people built (or captured) the SOZ or KT.

Having the Modern Age units moved around isn't that big of a hassle (actually adds a little more flavor to the game). How do techs like Invention (longbow) and Nationalism (rifleman) relate to their units anyway?

I'll just proceed as if the original game is the official one until further notice.

Okay, having re-read the options, and comment, I'd now vote '2' (proceed as-is with patched save).

I've not reached the Modern Era, both KT and SoZ were built off-continent, so no worries there. The only other thing was Ironclads moved to Steam Power, but seeing as most of my fighting's been done on land, hardly an issue. So there's only the Modern Era to worry about.

From a personal PoV, the way I made into the IA is a bit of a highlight... so I don't want to "lose" this game :(

Neil.

Hmm... as my defeat had nothing to do with the bugs, I'd better abstain :) . I enjoyed it as far as it went and learned never to give the Romans an ROP, even if we're both at war with the same enemy and they're allied with my ally.

1. Do you think that you personally will be hurt if this game will not be restarted?
Well i built KT but ancient cav is pretty good unit and like Ronald i can play with altered tech and unit tree
2. If it will be restarted?
Oh i think i will be hurt if the game will be restarted because i am short on time and it is 480 AD in my game
