I was online during a power outage yesterday. Today I returned online to find that my bookmarks are all gone! I'm hoping that the info still exists on my hard drive and it is just a matter of locating the file pathway or some such. Does anyone know how I might be able to retrieve these lost bookmarks?

EDIT: I use Firefox. I had FF1 yesterday. Today I upgraded to FF2. I was able to import my old IE bookmarks but the FF bookmarks folder was empty. All my password info and everything else on my PC appears to be intact. Only the bookmarks seem to have been affected by the outage.

EDIT 2:I was able to retrieve my bookmarks. For those who may be reading this thread because they have the same problem And are using the Firefox browser... Here is a great place to help you figure out how to restore your bookmarks. But don't delay for long! Firefox overwrites these files so if you wait too long you will lose them. There are 5 bookmark files. Firefox may overwrite as much as 5 times a day. Lucky for me I only had one rewrite a day for the last five days.

I had the same thing happen to me the other day! I didn't really look too hard, and just started creating a new set of bookmarks.

But if you're using Firefox, they might be in your profile directory somewhere.

Man I hope I can get them back. There were a couple hundred! The ones I use often I will remember. But the ones I had bookmarked for reference and research will be very tough and time consuming to relocate. Some may never be found again.

I use Firefox and searched around but couldn't find them anywhere. So I upgraded to FF2 and then was able to import my old Internet Explorer bookmarks. But the Firefox bookmarks file was empty.

Firefox backups your bookmarks daily and stores them in a folder called "bookmarkbackups"

You can find it in the Firefox profile folder

Whohoooo! Thank You GVBN! I couldn't find the backup folder doing a manual search of my Program Files but that did lead me to a file which then led me to a bookmarks help site. From there I was finally able to restore all of the bookmarks. Thank you so much.

Thanks for the tip white elk. I had the problem a few weeks ago, and didn't mind losing the bookmarks to badly, so no problems for me. I don't like having lots of bookmarks, just a few I use regularly.
