Hi, I am a new Civ player and I was wondering how to request a rite of passage through an ally's territory. I would appreciate it if someone could help me out.
Well, Right of Passage (which you'll see talked about here called an RoP) is usually easy to get. Once you have writing, you contact the civ you want to make the deal with. It is under "Treaties" and such on the top of the list. Then, you can ask them "What do you need for a RoP?", or "Accept this!", or "Forget about it." See what they need and usually, they say it's fine the way it stands.
When you press shift-d, you'll see a diplomacy window (with the leader-head, and the trades for both side). The right side is yours, and the left side is the AI. You'll see a list of categories that contain things to trade.
i.e.,
Diplomatic Treaties
Mutial Protection Pact
Right of Passage Military Alliances
Military alliance against the Zulus
Military alliance against the Germans
Military alliance against the Greeks
Do remember that RoP is a two way street. As you enter their territory freely, they can also enter your territory, and most likely will - in an annoying way.
I find that it is useful to block the AI from entering your territory - build a line of defenders on your border (this tactic has become known as the "Maginot line"), or else there will be hordes of units moving around - rather annoying if they occupy just THE square you're going to terraform...
As always - just my 2 kroners worth
(1USD is aprox 7,5 NOK at the moment, iirc)
In case that you don't know how to make an embassy in other civs this is one of the ways:
Right click on your capitol city, than choose "condact espionage", select a country were you wish to made embassy and thats it.
Ofcourse you had to have enough money for that.
I think others have already given you all relevant info, but I'd just chime in to say that "Rite of Passage" is one jewel of a typo. The thought didn't hit me when I saw the thread it could be about RoPs - I fully expected to see something about initiation rites.
