River and desert - but not a flood plain?

Hey guys,

Something weird happened in my current game. I've found a new city next to a river by desert tiles, but for some reason they don't count as flood plains. They count as desert, but I can work them for 1 commerce (since they're next to the river)! The city gets no unhealthiness from being near flood plains. The 3-food tile to the SW is an oasis tile.

Feature or bug?

Here's another shot of the city interior. Notice there's no unhealthiness!

It happens. Seen it occasionally.

Not all deserts that are beside rivers are flood plains in real life. Look at the grand canyon in the USA. Big desert with a hole in the ground that a river runs through.

Well, typically the flood plain tiles have green along the river:

What patch level are you playing at, 1.61?

You're not crazy...i saw the exact same thing in my current game. (Almost the same game too: fractal map, standard settings).

Maybe i haven't been paying attention, but i thought it was a little strange myself. Although i have noticed that flood plains seem fragile. ie. if you raze a city that was on flood plains, it goes to desert.

Edit: opps, important to mention that's my first 1.61 game. hmm.

You're not crazy, it is part of the game.

Deserts next to rivers are not Flood Plains. Mouse over the tile before you make any long-range plans around it.

It happens more often than you might think, as someone said, unless it had the green tinge to it, its not a flood plain....you can at least watermill it later on, so its not totally useless
